Where did you go to, and how did you get there?

I'm always looking off into the distance, apparently?

The story (so far)

Much like life itself my “career path” hasn’t been a straight line.

Through the evolution of graphic design, web design, on to product design, I’ve developed and sharpened a mosaic of skills that help me transcend any one particular “genre”. That range of experience is an asset that's helped me create work with proven success and build skillful and empowered teams.

I've worked in a variety of environments, including large-scale tech companies, design agencies, venture backed start-ups, and media.

I'm well versed in design strategy, creative direction, product visioning, multi-touchpoint ecosystems, design thinking, storytelling, visual design, and brand definition.

How I lead

To be honest, leadership wasn't always the goal for me. As my career progressed, I often took the lead on projects, and under the guidance of some amazing mentors, I naturally began leading teams of my own.

I've led multidisciplinary design in agencies, product design in fintech and SaaS, as well as contract and consultancy relationships.

Most recently I built the design organization at Fountain, scaling the product design team 3x and adding brand in under a year. I strengthened not just what we worked on but how we worked, empowering the team to push beyond the spec and building the necessary process to collaborate effectively.

Most importantly, I support and mentor the crew, investing in each member and their careers individually.

Design is only as good as the environment it's created in. A strong team of contributors, built on transparency, collaboration, and empathy leads to the best outcomes.

Design through my eyes

I believe in designs' inherent ability to be transformative, make meaningful connections, and serve both human and business needs, ethically.

My goal is to enable people through design, creating experiences that resonate and provide the opportunity to do good things, whether that's completing a work task, making important life decisions, or changing the world for the better.

That may sound ambitious and realistically, it is! But it's the mentality I keep when approaching design.

The way I get by

I'm originally from the great city of Detroit, MI and have been an Oakland, CA resident for just a shade under a decade.

Outside of work, music feeds my soul. There is no single art that has inspired me more. I’m an avid record collector, home recordist, and musician in hiding. Feel free to get in touch if you want to talk about 70s power pop, it's late 90s revival, and mid-60s, deep cut, hard bop.
